Makris Athens is the flagship restaurant of the Domes hotel group, in Thiseio, under Petros Dimas. It holds one Michelin star. The terrace faces the Acropolis directly, and the basement lounge has a glass floor laid over excavations of the classical period.
The room with the most setting
Every restaurant in this part of Athens sells a view of the rock. This one sells a view of the rock and a hole in its own floor, which is either the most complete version of the idea or the most insistent, depending on the evening you want.
Our standing warning applies with unusual force: on this coast and in this city alike, the view is priced separately whether or not it is itemised. A star suggests the kitchen is not merely along for the ride, but we have not eaten here and cannot tell you.
The farm
The kitchen follows a farm-to-table line using organic produce from the group’s own farm at Ancient Corinth. That is a real supply chain rather than a menu note, and it is the part of the proposition that survives scrutiny.
The star dates from the 2024 selection, as all standing Athens stars do.
