The Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation opened in Pangrati in 2018, near the Panathenaic Stadium, holding the family’s collection of European modernism alongside the Greek moderns, with a 187-seat auditorium and a café that does not require a ticket.
Two Goulandris museums, not one
This is the Basil and Elise building in Pangrati. The Museum of Cycladic Art in Kolonaki is the Nicholas and Dolly Goulandris foundation. Same family name, different collections, different neighbourhoods, and they are conflated constantly.
How this readership uses it
Through membership. Philanthropy is the most widely held interest among the ultra-wealthy, and in Athens the institutions are the door — this one, the Cycladic, DESTE and the SNFCC, each with a different family behind it.
