Hygeia is the flagship of the Hellenic Healthcare Group, in Marousi: around 440 beds, eighteen theatres, fifty specialties, roughly 700 associated physicians, and the only Gamma Knife radiosurgery department in Greece.
Why this is the one people name
It has held JCI accreditation since 2010, longer than any other hospital in Athens, and it runs an international patient service with named staff, insurance coordination, interpretation and transport. For a household that has just moved, a desk that has done this before is worth more than a specialty list.
The oncology is the substantive draw — radiation oncology, and the Gamma Knife. Robotic surgery and MAKO robotic joint replacement are also here.
Two things to check rather than assume
The JCI page on the English site lists re-surveys through 2019. Later maintenance is asserted in hospital communications from 2026 but is not shown as a survey record. If accreditation is decisive for you, ask for the current certificate.
And the Mayo Clinic second-opinion partnership that appears on travel and hospital-ranking blogs is not on the hospital’s own site. We could not find it. Treat it as unverified.
For the ordinary week, the coast has Mediterraneo and HealthSpot, and the drive to Marousi is not a weekly proposition.
